CRICKET LEGEND GLENN MCGRATH GOES A LONG WAY FOR A BEER
The latest episode of Great North Brewing Co’s interview series, Long Way for a Beer, will launch featuring Australian cricket icon Glenn McGrath this Thursday.
Hosted by YouTube sensation and filmmaker Beau Miles, the six-part adventure and interview series follows McGrath as he journeys through the rugged terrain of Far North Queensland. Fellow celebrities, music star and athlete Cody Simpson and chart-topping singer Amy Shark, also feature in episodes in the series where they face unique challenges with only the essentials – and, of course, Great Northern beer. Each episode delves into the lives and stories of these iconic Australians, showcasing their resilience and humour as they navigate the unfamiliar landscape.
In McGrath’s two episodes, that can be viewed here, he reflects on the profound moments that have shaped his life and career. Against the stunning backdrop of rural Queensland, he shares personal insights on the triumphs and challenges he has faced, including the loss of his wife, Jane, the passing of his close friend Shane Warne, and his retirement from cricket in 2007 as the then-leading wicket-taker in World Cup history.
Reflecting on his personal losses around the campfire, Glenn said it’s been the support of those around him that has helped him get through the challenging times.
“You don’t realise how important someone is to you until you lose them – Rod [Marsh], Shane [Warne] and more recently my dad Shane,” said Glenn.
“It’s how you pick yourself up and carry on and the people in our lives allow us to do that. It’s those people that are important.”
As McGrath and host Miles overcome physical challenges along the Daintree River, McGrath also reflects on the success of the Pink Test and what has made it such a celebrated part of the Test Cricket fixture.
McGrath’s episodes follow the release earlier this month of episodes featuring Cody Simpson, who revealed the complexities of childhood stardom, his swimming career and what is next in his career.
At the heart of the Long Way for a Beer series is the belief that Australians are at their best selves when they are immersed in the great outdoors.
Zac Gelman, Marketing Manager at Great Northern Brewing Co said the series captures the uplifting experience of connecting with nature and embracing authenticity – a feeling as refreshing as enjoying a cold Great Northern beer in the great outdoors over good conversation.
“At Great Northern we believe Australian nature has the power to bring out the best in people,” said Gelman.
“Throughout their time in the heart of Queensland, Glenn, Cody and Amy showcase all the qualities that make us truly Australian. Their honesty and resilience shine through, serving as an ongoing reminder to us all that taking the time to get outdoors has the power to unlock the best parts of ourselves.”
